In our ‘How to’ series on a Sunday morning we look at how to fulfil our callings. One thing that really struck me was the need for us to be courageous.
Courage is different from faith; faith is having trust in someone else; in God. Courage is something that is within; believing in a power that is within you to do something or be something.
There are all kinds of courage that we need: we need spiritual courage – courage to trust in Jesus whatever; courage to share your faith; to use your spiritual gifts.

And courage comes from the Holy Spirit; it comes from believing that god has placed a power in us; the Holy Spirit.

From cover to cover the Bible is full of a God who can do anything; for whom nothing is impossible. So, it doesn’t quite make sense for us in any way to be sacred or frightened. That is why Jesus is so defiant that we should take heart; take courage.

I believe what we need to build here, as a church, is a culture of courage.
God tells Joshua to have courage; but it’s not just God who has told Joshua; Moses has told Joshua to have courage; Joshua tells the people to have courage; the people tell Joshua to have courage – they are all at it.

Encouraging; literally means to put courage into somebody.
