Our Origins and Progress

Churches Together on Hayling (CTOH)

The church was planted from Leigh Park Baptist Church, Havant in 1994 and became autonomous in 1995. The church first met in a small room in the Hayling Island Community Centre, Station Road in the West Town area, and now occupies the main hall for services. We have no permanent building but manage well enough in the Centre. This is a useful facility with a large hall and numerous smaller rooms used for Sunday Club and crèche

In 2005 our Minister, the Rev'd Jacky Storey was inducted as Pastor, having been trained at Spurgeon's Bible College whilst serving at Shirley Warren Action Church in Southampton. She is working together with the church and the leadership team, to see the love of God make a difference in the lives of individuals and communities both at home and overseas.

She has a passion to see Christian community reflect the inclusive and embracing love of God and believes that church is not only somewhere to look for and find Christ but also a place to find friendship and belonging and a safe place to grow and respond to the call to live distinctive 'salt and light' "fully human" lives.

Her own journey to finding a personal relationship with God happened over decades and so she values church as a place to ask questions and express doubts as well as to find faith. One of her favourite scriptures is John 15:5 "...apart from me you can do nothing". That's what makes the Christian life so exciting - seeing God do so much more than we would ever have asked or even imagined - by His grace and the power of the Holy Spirit.

Our church is in a cluster of Baptist churches in the area: Leigh Park, Denmead, Waterlooville, Emsworth and Horndean and Jacky meets with the other ministers on a monthly basis. She is also committed to working ecumenically, strongly believing that we're "better together".

We have been able to deepen links with other churches on the island. Churches Together on Hayling (CTOH) are committed to mission together.

Meetings concerning chaplaincy of schools and residential homes have initially given consideration as to how the wider church on the island might be able to support these organisations.

NEW to Hayling Island!
This already goes on in many churches elsewhere - but it is now happening in different churches in Hayling. It makes for a relaxed, informal occasion with crafts, a short celebration and a meal.
See NEWS page for more details.

Other connections
Our Church has continued to support mission nationally and internationally by contributing to Home Mission and the Baptist Missionary Society. Other links include the Grass Roots foundation, and local individual support for Care and Open Doors and International Nepal Fellowship.

Please see the EXTRAS page for some web site links to these mission ventures.

Please note that, as with all the links on the 'EXTRAS' page, we do not necessarily totally agree or endorse the contents, but the links are provided to hopefully make things easier for you!
